Shariar Khan, QA Lead, Scrum Master, and Project Manager at Technovative Solutions Ltd. (TVS), the parent organization of Indetechs Software Ltd. (ISL) and Mir Nushrat Jahan, Associate SQA Engineer at ISL, and alumni of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), attended the 23rd Foundation Day celebration of the university, sharing industry insights and career guidance with students through an interactive alumni-student session.

Celebrated under the theme “Celebrating 23 Years of Building Capabilities,” the event took place on 4th October 2026, bringing together members of the ULAB community to recognize the university’s journey and strengthen connections between students, alumni, and industry professionals.

Connecting Students with Industry Professionals

As part of the Foundation Day celebrations, ULAB’s Career Services Office & Alumni Relations Office (CSARO) organized an Interactive Alumni-Student Session, providing students with opportunities to meet alumni and industry professionals for one-on-one career advice.

Held at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh campus in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the session offered students a platform to discuss career paths, understand industry expectations, and seek practical guidance on preparing for their professional journeys.

Shariar and Mir Nushrat attended as both ULAB alumni and industry professionals, bringing their workplace experiences and perspectives to conversations with students. Their participation provided an opportunity to help students understand the transition from academic life to professional careers, explore industry expectations, and consider how they could apply their knowledge in real-world settings.

Sharing Practical Career Advice and Industry Insights

Coming from professional backgrounds in software engineering and quality assurance, Shariar and Mir Nushrat engaged with students seeking guidance on career preparation, professional development, and securing their first jobs.

Shariar initially expected to meet Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) students. However, both alumni were pleased to connect with students from other academic departments, many of whom shared similar concerns about preparing for their careers and securing their first jobs. This shared interest in understanding career opportunities and workplace expectations highlighted the value of industry engagement across disciplines.

Through one-on-one conversations, Shariar and Mir Nushrat shared their professional experiences and discussed the importance of developing practical skills alongside academic knowledge. Their participation helped students gain perspectives on the skills, attitudes, and preparation needed to navigate the early stages of their careers.

A key takeaway from their discussions was the importance of building strong fundamentals, staying curious, and demonstrating practical capabilities rather than relying solely on academic qualifications.

For CSE students, Shariar emphasized approaching capstone projects as real-world products, with careful planning, effective teamwork, and quality considerations integrated from the beginning. This approach helps students develop the problem-solving and collaboration skills needed to contribute effectively to professional engineering environments.

Both Shariar and Mir Nushrat appreciated the opportunity to return to their university, engage with students from diverse disciplines, and share insights from their professional journeys. They also acknowledged CSARO, the CSE Department, and the wider ULAB community for organizing the session and extending a warm welcome.

Strengthening the Connection Between Academia and Industry

Engagements like the ULAB Interactive Alumni-Student Session help bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice. Direct conversations with experienced professionals allow students to gain a clearer understanding of workplace expectations, explore different career paths, and identify the skills they need to develop before entering the job market.

For technology and engineering students in particular, exposure to industry perspectives can help connect classroom concepts with real-world challenges. Discussions around software quality, automation, teamwork, and project delivery provide practical context for the technical knowledge students acquire through their studies.

At Indetechs Software Ltd., we recognize that developing a strong technology ecosystem involves more than delivering software and engineering solutions. It also means supporting knowledge exchange, encouraging collaboration, and helping emerging professionals prepare for the evolving demands of the industry. As a software and engineering solutions provider working across sectors such as energy, manufacturing, healthcare, the public sector, and disaster management, ISL values opportunities to strengthen connections between academia and industry.

We encourage initiatives that bring students, alumni, and industry professionals together to share experiences, exchange ideas, and discuss the practical skills needed in today's workplace. The participation of Shariar Khan and Mir Nushrat Jahan in ULAB's Foundation Day celebrations reflects ISL's commitment to professional mentorship, knowledge sharing, and meaningful industry engagement.

Looking ahead, Shariar and Mir Nushrat expressed interest in contributing further to ULAB, particularly its CSE Department, through mentoring, career guidance, and capstone project support. We believe continued collaboration between educational institutions and industry professionals can help students build confidence, develop relevant skills, and make more informed decisions about their future careers.
